Peter Byfield - Consultant
Peter joined Wannops in 2013 as the partner responsible for the firm’s Property Litigation Team, specialising in all areas of property related dispute resolution, with over 30 years of experience with large south coast law firms.
That experience extends to landlord and tenant disputes of all
descriptions (tenant default, possession claims, forfeiture, commercial rent recovery, dilapidations claims, breach of covenant), lease renewals, rent reviews, restrictive covenants, easements, rights of way, wayleave disputes, trespass, boundary disputes, adverse possession claims and party wall disputes. Peter also has expertise in handling complex construction claims, including adjudications.
In 2017, Peter became head of the firm’s Dispute Resolution department, responsible for a team of over ten experienced and dedicated litigation solicitors and executives.
Peter is now semi-retired but continues with the firm to provide advice and guidance as a consultant, bringing to bear a considerable amount of knowledge and experience accumulated over the years that he has devoted to the profession.
Amongst the various matters that Peter
dealt with in recent years are the reported cases of Superstrike Ltd v Rodrigues  EWCA Civ 669; Consortium Commercial Developments Limited v ABB Limited  EWHC 2128
During his time as a full time practitioner, Peter often acted as an advocate in the County Courts and was renowned for adopting an analytical approach to problem solving for clients. He found this useful in developing his experience in methods of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) such
as mediations and arbitrations. He is recognised by his clients as having a realistic approach and a pragmatic style to dispute resolution generally.
