Legal aid may be available depending on your financial position, the nature of the case and whether it is to be dealt with in the Magistrates’ or Crown Court.

If we are instructed on a private basis our solicitors’ charging rate depends on their level of experience. The hourly charges for the fee earners that may work on this for you are:-

Fixed fees can be offered in some cases depending on the complexity of the case.

Guilty pleas

For example; drink/drug driving; driving without due care and attention; speeding failing to provide details of a driver; no insurance/tax.

This type of case will cost £500 plus vat to attend at a local court

This fee will include a one hour attendance at the office or at court (to include consideration of the evidence, taking your instructions, providing advice on plea and likely sentence) and representation at a single hearing at the Magistrates Court

The fee does not include the instruction and costs of any expert witness; taking statements from any witnesses; advice and assistance in relation to making a special reasons or exceptional hardship argument or advice or assistance in relation to any appeal

It is difficult to estimate how long your case will take at court as it will depend on the court listing for that day however we would anticipate being at court with you for up to half a day (a morning or afternoon).

For example; not guilty pleas (trials), newton hearings; special reasons; exceptional hardship arguments.

A simple case will cost £1500-2500 plus vat

This includes an initial meeting with you to obtain instructions; consideration of the evidence; advising you as to plea and sentence; arranging to take witness statements; identifying and instructing an expert witness (a separate quote will be obtained for experts fees) attending at court and representing you during the hearing, discussing the outcome and advising on an appeal.

This does not include disbursements.

Complex cases

Examples of more complex cases would include; a trial involving a large number of witnesses; a trial expected to last longer than half a day; cases involving the instruction of expert witnesses such as accident investigators or medical experts; cases requiring site visits; a complex or novel area of law; crown court cases

Disbursements

Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as experts or medical fees or counsel’s fees. We handle the payment of the disbursements on your behalf and these must be paid in advance of the hearing. A quote will be obtained from a suitably qualified expert and discussed with you.
